Simon Says Let’s Talk

We’re proud to announce a new partnership between Brimscombe Mill, Dr Simon Opher (MP) and Craic Health CIC launching a groundbreaking series of talks exploring men’s mental health in a way that’s open, creative and collaboration. Supported by The NHS Simon Says, Let’s Talk is hosted by local GP and MP Dr Simon Opher, who will be joined each evening by a recognised guest from a different world. From comedy and sport to the arts for a real conversation about the struggles and stories behind men’s mental health.

The first event takes place on Wednesday 20 November in our Sanctuary Space, with broadcaster Tom Walker (best known as Jonathan Pie) as the inaugural guest.

What makes this series different is its integration with social prescribing meaning local GPs and clinicians will directly offer tickets to patients who may benefit most. NHS staff will also be present at each event, ensuring there’s support available for anyone who wants to continue the conversation privately afterwards.

Alongside the live events, the talks will be shared as a podcast, film series on YouTube, and through local and national press, helping the dialogue reach far beyond the room.

Simon has seen first hand in his role as a GP the importance of encouraging men to talk and the benefits:

“From GP to MP, I’ve carried forward the causes I championed in my medical career, one of the most important being social prescribing,” said Dr Simon Opher. “This series shines a light on creative and community-led approaches, from comedy to the arts to sport that can bring people together and improve lives.”

At Brimscombe Mill, we know first-hand the importance of bringing people together and how this can help us to all feel less alone. This partnership is an important step in showing how social enterprise and health services can work hand-in-hand to create new, hopeful responses to mental health, loneliness and isolation.

Tickets are available through our website with a proportion distributed free through GP referrals.
